Personal coaching

Coaching is an activity which we tend to associate with work and senior managers or Directors in organisations. However, coaching can be useful for anyone considering change in their lives or facing change about which they have no choice.

How personal coaching can help

___

Personal change

You might be thinking about change in your personal life, perhaps as a carer for an elderly relative or a young child or a husband, wife or partner. Or you might be supporting someone who is ill and receiving treatment. Perhaps you are trying to juggle work, family and caring responsibilities and experiencing very mixed emotions. These might range from sadness to guilt and anxiety resulting in feeling overwhelmed at times.

Career change

Maybe you are unsettled at work and wondering about making a job or career change and trying to summon up the courage to make a change. You might be preparing for the interview which will lead to the job you have been hoping for or simply wanting to make the most of your life.

What is coaching?

Whatever the change you are faced with or considering, coaching may help. It is a recognised professional activity which consists of conversations between you and the coach. It is different from therapy, counselling and mentoring. It is practical, focused on the future and involves listening, asking questions and at times challenging you, the person being coached. The aim is to help you to find your own solutions to areas where you are seeking change. This might involve helping you to set goals, to define how you would like things to be different or simply by exploring how you manage your own life and situation.

Coaching sessions are very individual but the general approach is illustrated below.

“The change has been in my own attitude, the increased positivity I feel has enabled me to climb out of the rut I have been in so long.”
